  • Qualification Process

The CIWM (WAMITAB) Level 1 in Waste and Recycling is the ideal Introduction to the world of Waste and Recycling.

As a taught and tested qualification and is the ideal way of gaining the appropriate qualification, as the Delegate is taught everything they need to know!

This qualification is open to anyone and doesn’t require you to have achieved any other qualifications previously.

On completion of this qualification, it will allow you to demonstrate your competence at an operative level, so whether your new and looking to enter into a role as a waste / recycling operative or your currently employed, this is the ideal starting point.

Delegates can either attend an online training course or we can arrange to deliver the course face to face at work, home and another suitable location.

The course material is delivered via powerpoint presentation; however, this will not be death by powerpoint, this will be an interactive fun learning process, with various exercises, question and answer sessions and much more.

This course will not only provide you with the knowledge and understanding to pass the multiple-choice questions test required to achieve the award, but this will set you up in a career in waste management.

The training course covers 4 core areas which are:

    • Accepting and collecting waste and recyclable materials, to include identifying types of waste and recyclables, associated hazards, personal protective equipment and handling procedures.
    • Removal and disposal of waste, which covers removal of different types of waste, selecting and using the appropriate personal protective equipment, manual handling and disposal of waste in accordance with work instructions.
    • Working Safely, which covers legislation, types of health and safety information and where to find it, understanding how you can impact the environment, understanding the definition of hazardous and non-hazardous materials, manual handling and identifying those affected by working tasks.
    • How to operate waste and recycling equipment to include vehicles safely, which covers types of equipment and vehicles used in waste and recycling, identifying faults and reporting, how to maintain security of vehicles and equipment.

After the course, the Centre will arrange for you to sit a multiple-choice question test, which you will need to pass in order to achieve the award.

The Centre and tutor will be on hand to provide ongoing support, should you have any specific questions or in the event you need to do any last-minute revision.

Tests are delivered either face to face using hard copy multiple choice question test’s or through an online version of the test.

This will be monitored by an invigilator, who’s role is to ensure the test is carried out in line with WAMITAB regulations and codes of practice regarding the invigilation of multiple-choice questions tests.

Once the test is complete, your multiple-choice question papers will be reviewed by the awarding body CIWM (WAMITAB), who will then issue results to the Centre.

After this point, we can then claim your award!

In the unlikely event, you didn’t pass first time, it’s not a problem as we can simply arrange for you to re-sit the test at cost, as well as looking to provide you additional training and support.

On completion, the Centre will claim your certificate, which will be scanned, and a copy sent in advance of the original certificate.
