Those supervising or managing cement, asphalt (tar) plants, or block works would complete Mandatory units only to achieve this qualification.
Those operating under the full scope of the regulations would be required to complete the 'Mandatory Units' and any relevant 'Optional Unit(s)', which for most will include the new optional unit 'Managing Excavations and Tips in Quarries'.
Each Learner will need to complete the following 'Mandatory' unit(s):
• Managing Competence in Mineral Products Operations (MHSE01)
• Managing Risk Assessments and Safe Systems of Work in Mineral Products Operations (MHSE02)
• Managing Operations on Mineral Products Sites (MHSE03 )
• Improving Health, Safety and the Environment in Mineral Products Operations (MHSE04)
• Supervision of Teams and Individuals in Mineral Products Operations (SHE05)
Those operating under the full scope of the Quarry Regulations 1999 must also complete any relevant optional unit(s) listed below.
For activities within a quarry environment where the Learner has responsibility for or an involvement in;
- Managing excavations and tips at any time, unit MHSE05 should be undertaken.
- Activities within a quarry environment where blasting takes place, where the Learner has limited responsibility that does not include the blasting activities, the Learner should undertake unit SHE07.
- Activities within a quarry environment where the Learner has responsibility at any time for blasting activities, units SHE07 and SHE15 should be selected.
- Managing excavations and tips and blasting activities: all 3 optional units should be undertaken.
Optional unit(s) available:
• Managing Excavations and Tips in Quarries (MHSE05)
• Knowledge of Drilling and Blasting in Quarries (SHE07)
• Manage Drilling and Blasting in Quarries (SHE15)
