  • Is this qualification suitable for me?

    This qualification is suitable for aspiring or already appointed supervisors or managers working in areas of the business either, inside or outside of the scope of the Quarry Regulations 1999


    Those supervising or managing cement, asphalt (tar) plants, or block works, would complete pathway 1 only to achieve this qualification. 


    Those operating under the full scope of the regulations would be required to complete pathways 1 and 2 if they are involved in mineral extraction only, those involved in blasting in addition to mineral extraction would need to complete pathways 1, 2, and 3.  


    On completion of this qualification, it demonstrates competence by the learner, to act as the nominated, appointed competent person under section 8(1)(c) of the Quarry Regulations 1999


    Those in larger organisations would typically complete this qualification in order to demonstrate competence to act as the nominated substitute 8(1)(d), in the event the appointed competent person under section 8(1)(c) of the Quarry Regulations 1999 is unavailable. 


    Typically, within larger organisations those looking to act as the 8(1)(c) appointed competent person, would hold or be working towards achieving the MPQC Level 6 Diploma in Health, Safety and Environmental Management


    In order to complete the MPQC Level 4 Diploma in Health, Safety and Environmental Management, you do not have to be in a designated role to achieve this qualification. 


    Providing the Learner has sufficient involvement in the operation at the required level and can meet the requirements of the award such as site improvements, implementation of health and safety, and environmental aspects, then the award is achievable. 


  • Qualification Process

    The MPQC Level 4 Diploma in Health, Safety and Environmental Management (SHE) is achieved through assessment in the work environment, the process requires the Learner to demonstrate he or she has the required knowledge and skills to manage the appropriate extractive or mineral processing operation.  


    Those supervising or managing cement, asphalt (tar) plants, or block works, would complete pathway 1 only to achieve this qualification. 


    Those operating under the full scope of the regulations would be required to complete pathways 1 and 2 if they are involved in mineral extraction only, those involved in blasting in addition to mineral extraction would need to complete pathways 1, 2, and 3.  


    The qualification process would include a number of visits by one of our competent Assessors. 


    The first assessment visit will include an induction, to explain the process, as well as the Centre and Awarding Organisation’s policies, practices and procedures.   


    Each Learner will need to complete the following unit(s): 


    Pathway 1 – Must be achieved by all learners:


    • Contribute to and Promote a Positive Safety, Health and Environmental Culture (SHE01)

    • Identify and Implement Safety, Health and Environmental Training (SHE02)

    • Identify, Recommend and Support the Implementation of Safety, Health and Environmental Improvements (SHE03) 

    • Identify Health and Safety Hazards and Environmental Aspects and Reduce Risks/Impacts (SHE04)

    • Supervision of Teams and Individuals in Mineral Products Operations (SHE05)


    Those operating under the full scope of the Quarry Regulations 1999, will also need to complete one of the following pathways: 


    Pathway 2 -  Quarry Operations Excluding Blasting


    • Quarrying Safety, Health and Environmental Aspects (SHE06)


    Pathway 3 -  Quarry Operations Including Blasting :


    • Quarrying Safety, Health and Environmental Aspects (SHE06)

    • Knowledge of Drilling and Blasting in Quarries (SHE07)


    As part of the process, you will be required to answer a number of question papers (One for each unit), gather documents relevant to your role such as risk assessments, environmental procedures, training matrix, emergency plans and procedures, evidence of site improvements and other such documents! 


    When your assessor arrives on site, he or she will be looking to observe you carrying out your daily duties, asking questions about the tasks you carry out, looking at the documentation and getting you to explain the various processes and procedures. 


    On completion, the Centre will claim your certificate, which will be scanned, and a copy sent in advance of the original certificate.

  • Qualification Cost's

    MPQC Level 4 Diploma in Health, Safety and Environmental Management (SHE4)


    £3049.00 + VAT Per Learner


    Includes:

    • MP Awards (MPQC) Registration for your chosen competence qualification.
    • 6 Assessment visits, Including over 30 hours of assessment.
    • All assessor time, travel and associated expenses.
    • E-Portfolio to allow you to complete your knowledge questions, upload evidence, track progress, as well as providing access to hundreds of pieces of guidance and knowledge videos.

    Additional Charges:


    £600 + VAT - Per additional assessment visit, this is typically required where the assessor has confirmed an assessment within 7 days, and then turns up on site and the learner has either done nothing or the assessment can’t go ahead as the learner has meetings or other work which takes priority over the assessment. 


    However, to date we have never charged a client for an extra assessment visit which is down to the rigorous planning and support we provide our learners.

    Your portfolio will be located online, which you can access through any website browser via a laptop, computer or mobile device.


    Here you can access your knowledge question papers, completing them online, and submitting them for marking, with one simple click of a button, which will also notify your Assessor automatically!  We also provide access to a huge archive of guidance documents on a range of health, safety, waste and environmental subjects.


    This will not only help you research and learn in order to achieve the award, but it’s also the ideal on-site reference tool, when carrying out your daily duties.


    Because we have remote access to the information provided, it allows us to add and update information over time, resulting in an ever-expanding resource at your fingertips!


    We will also provide you access to a range of knowledge video’s, which explain how to carry out specific tasks, procedures or assessments as well as more in-depth videos which cover specific topic areas such as legislation.

  • Do I need access to an operational facility?

    Yes, you need access to an operational facility with the required resource, as the assessment phase is completed in the working environment.


    • Operational facility examples: quarries, cement, asphalt (tar) plants or block works. 
    • Resource examples: crushing, screening, blasting, people/staff, vehicles, mobile plant, management systems, procedures, assessments etc. 
  • How long does it take to complete?

    These qualifications are led by the Learner, with support from their Assessor. 


    It’s hard to give an accurate time frame, as it will depend on a range of factors, such as the time the Learner can put into research and learning, completing work set by their Assessor, existing knowledge and experience, and workload to name but a few. 


    We have outlined approximate time scales below, however, the time frame can be dramatically increased or decreased depending on the Learner and whether additional time is required in order to carry out further learning. 


    Approximate time scales:


    MPQC Level 4 Diploma in Health, Safety and Environmental Management (SHE): 8 to 12 months 


    The minimum time frame that this award can be completed is 13 weeks from the first assessment, which is set by the awarding organisation.

    No, this qualification is open entry which means you don't need to have achieved any other qualification.
